Liz Solo and the Ocarina of Time

Liz Solo's Installation/Performance Piece - Liz Solo and the Ocarina of Time - was presented by Edge Intermedia and Liz Solo July 29th and 30th at the Edge Intermedia Lab in St. John's. The event also featured Live Drawing and performances by DJ Skratch Two, the Unknown Drummer, Beat City Nights, Allie Oop and Krystle Hayden. The game was projected large (8.5 X 12 feet) and the Artist played for 24 hours straight. The Artist beat "Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time" in 23 hours and 57 minutes, meeting her challenge to conquer the game in less than 24 hours. Thanks to all who came out to support the endeavor. Very special thanks to Montgomery Hall, Mike Kean, Sam Hall and Eli Whalen for their contributions.

Many have asked the question "Why?". Here is Liz Solo's statement on that:

"Why did I play a Nintendo game for 24 hours straight? For the same reason people climb mountains.. I did it because I can . This Zelda Project was the first manifestion of work resulting from my new oeuvre - "Work With What You Have". Stay tuned for more video game based works in the future."

This presentation was a fundraising event for Liz Solo and the Edge Intermedia Media Lab Fund. It was produced by Liz Solo with help from Edge Intermedia members.

Liz is currently immersed in the "Machine I Am" Project - a video and performance based work focused on virtual worlds and machinima. She has been presenting excerpts from the project at both live venues and in virtual spaces, most recently screening machinima at the Rose and Thistle in St. John's as part of her "experiments in performance" Series.

For the past months she has been working extensively in two online virtual environments - World of Warcraft and Second Life. Recently she attended the World of Warcraft (WoW) SCIENCE Conference, hosted by Convergent Systems. During this three-day conference scientists and researchers discussed topics related to research in online environments. Liz documented and pieced media together from the the conference, editing machinima video files together with audio generated from text chat log and run through a text to speech editor.

Uploading files via yourTube etc has been frustrating but you may view lo-res pieces by searching "WoW Science Conference" on YouTube. If you have the patience to wait for download you can see much higher reolution files here on this site. Day One and Day Two have been posted. Day Three is still being edited but will be posted soon. These links will open in their own windows so you can browse until they download.

Liz Solo in Amsterdam

Liz Solo's early machinima experiment "Amazing" was featured in a gallery installation at PlanetArt in Amsterdam. See the video here: Amazing or visit Liz's YouTube Page. Her newest project is called Machine I Am and is in its early stages. It explores themes surrounding transhumanist idealogy and human interaction in virtual space. Liz will be incorporating or merging machinima, digital video and live performance to create a new narrative based work.

Liz is currently working with a number of artists and groups online to develop her ideas including Ars Virtua, The I AM CO-OP Project and members of the Second Front Performance Collective. See image and posts about the project on Liz's "Machine I Am" Blog here - Machine I Am
